Update 9/10/2022 7:28 PM EST: Details have come to light which reveal the foam pit to have been a collaboration between Intel and Levono as opposed to a program put on by Twitch. What compensation if any the injured persons will receive remains unclear. Those using the foam pit were obligated to sign a waiver acknowledging the possibility of injury or damage to property before entering. The foam pit was closed at noon on the day of the incident.

The popular content creator Adriana Chechik recently broke her back in two places after falling into a foam pit at the ongoing TwitchCon held in San Diego, California. The incident was caught on video and the streamer can be seen falling backwards before crying out in pain while asking for medical attention. Chechik later said that she received surgery including the installation of a meter rod.

THEGAMER VIDEO OF THE DAY

“Well, I broke my back in two places and am getting surgery to put a meter rod in for support today. Send your support,” Chechik posted early this morning on Twitter. “When it rains it pours and I am definitely feeling the rain right now.”

Chechik is apparently not the only person to have been hurt in the foam pit. Several streamers have since come forward to call the conditions unsafe, noting mostly minor injuries. The streamer known as EdyBot for example jumped into the foam pit just before Chechik.

“I’m the other girl in the video and a friend of Adriana. She would love to hear from other people who were injured in the same pit,” EdyBot said on Twitter in a remark suggesting the possibility of legal action. “Please message me if you know anyone else who got hurt! I fell very lightly and still felt a jolt up my back and had pain for the rest of the night.”

The incident has already been making the rounds on social media. “How do you respond to this other than with a lawyer and the expectation of a million plus,” the user on Reddit going by the name of Anonyymmouss Married. “A meter fucking rod in your back, dude.” The vast majority of commentators are clearly incense.

The reception on Resetera has been every bit as negative as Reddit. “Even if her medical bills are fully compensated and then some, I’m not sure if money can even make this totally right. Serious back injuries are often life altering,” the user called Sandcrawler noted. “How is nearly everything Twitch touches still consistently run like a total clown show?”
